User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070427 Firefox/2.0.0.3 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070427 Firefox/2.0.0.3 see below Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: « Name and Password » in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/userprefs.cgi will generate the Unicode Character 'REPLACEMENT CHARACTER' - U+FFFD « » if you insert lɛʁi____לערי ריינהארט or a longer « Your real name (optional, but encouraged): » while lɛʁi___לערי ריינהארט lɛʁi__לערי ריינהארט lɛʁi_לערי ריינהארט or a shorter one wil not generate that character. Actual Results: broken Expected Results: correct implementation attachment screen dump mozilla.org · UTF-8 · Bugzilla · User Preferences · Name · 01.jpg folows Dear friends, the screen dump in the attachment will show two Mozilla Firefox windows one on top of the other. At the window on the top I used lɛʁi · לערי ריינהארט in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/userprefs.cgi « Name and Password » . As you can see the at « Reported: » you will find 2005-12-06 11:06 PST by lɛʁi · לערי ריינה... which contains the Unicode Character 'REPLACEMENT CHARACTER' - U+FFFD « » ; see http://yi.wiktionary.org/wiki/project:bugzilla/unicode/U_FFFD?uselang=en#dummy The window in the background was using lɛʁi לערי ריינהארט in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/userprefs.cgi « Name and Password » where only the « · » character was removed. see details at « Steps to Reproduce » This reminds me about http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=000332 · Broken UTF-8 cutoff breaks display in some browsers http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=005401 · "Corrupted"/truncated text on deletion log entry in Recent Changes where database fields of a given length specified in octets / bytes are filed with UTF-8 text having the same or less characters. Best regards Reinhardt [[user:Gangleri]] P.S. Please contact me via email if you can confirm this bug. I would be happy to get my name corrected (changing it back to a « working » texct).
Don't test any unicode issues against bmo, test only against the current HEAD code.
