406497 - Mozilla Talkbalk does not work for Firefox 3 beta 1/incorrect version reported

When previous versions of Mozilla crash, Mozilla Talkbalk is launched and gives the option to file a bug report. This does not happen with Firefox 3 beta. Not sure if this is because it is a beta version. Also, Windows Vista has a section in control panel called "problem reports and solutions": The version of Firefox does not identify itself quite right I think in the problem log. See sample below under additional information.

Talkback has been replaced by a new crash reporter called Breakpad ( http://wiki.mozilla.org/Breakpad ) in Firefox 3. Unfortunately, it doesn't work on Windows in Fx 3 beta 1, which is bug 386343. But otherwise it's really much better, trust me.

As for the version numbers, “1.8.[etc.]” refers to the Gecko ( http://wiki.mozilla.org/Gecko ) version number, which was carried over from the old Mozilla Application Suite ( http://www.mozilla.org/products/mozilla1.x/ ).

“0.0.0.0” may actually be a bug. It sounds like bug 286825, but that was supposedly fixed before Firefox 1.5. If checking for duplicates ( https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/query.cgi?format=specific ) yields nothing, please file this as a new (separate) bug, being as specific as possible in your steps to reproduce (for example, when does “1.8.[etc.]” appear instead of “0.0.0.0”?). Thanks.
