Based on usability testing I recommend the wording in the sidebar panel 
gets changed slightly to make clear what's going on:
when in advanced mode change the customize... button to Customize for 
NNN... where NNN is the category selected in the popup on top (e.g. 
Web). Furthermore in the customize dialog I recommend putting the 
category controls group on top of the engines selected for that category. 
The header above the search engines in that samed dialog should say 
"Serach Engines for NNN" to make the relationship even clearer.
In simple mode I wonder whether query (in 'Bookmark Search Query') is a 
term that users will understand, something like 'Bookmark Search 
Request' or even just 'Bookmark this Search' might be better suited.

This is mostly a UI change, but I'm concerned that the context sensitive wording 
(aka "Search engines for NNN") will call for feature work.

At this point in the schedule, we have to almost always say no to new features - 
so I recommend the 80% solution which would be to use "Search engines for this 
category" or something generic like that.  It might be easy to use context 
sensitive text, but that would be just one more thing to test, and we have 
bigger fish to fry.

German, I'm reassigning to you so, with Vera's help, you can recommend precisely 
what the changes in text and layout should be.

There is no Customize button in the advanced Search tab, the category controls 
group is already on top of the search engine list, and the `Bookmark Search 
Query' button now reads `Bookmark Search Results'. Resolving as worksforme.

My, what an awful search UI we have ...
