Dear friends,

I post here a general enhancement requirement.which probably will net be solved in the next three milestones.

However I want to start the discussion on this topic now because I experience similar basic issues at other projects as well.

The basic idea is that in a database whit various entities / elements having *arbitrary* contents one should now the directionality of each item . In most cases the directionality can be autodetected and only the more complicated BiDi content needs to be specified manualy.

So for (for the Bugzilla product) every entity as classification, product, component, bug summary, user name keywoord, milestone, etc. there are four types of directionality:

RTL autodetected
LTR autodetected
BiDi where at some point in time it is specified manualy that the content should be regarded / handeled / displayed as LTR
BiDi where at some point in time it is specified manualy that the content should be regarded / handeled / displayed as RTL

The goal of all the efforts is to achive a semiatumatic configuration which handles the directionality information and does not rquire to set / adjust directionality in each output variant as bug entry, bug edit, search and lists etc.


I prepaided and will provide two attachmets.

The first just shows how must attention must be paid during page design in order to avoid unvanted BiDi influence on the final result.

The second just shows the component list of a product. Both the product and the component contain RTL text. One would expect to allign items of a RTL list at the « right » and to add the component details at the left of the component.

... regarding BiDi classification one could think also about a "neutral" class

There are two types of entities:

a) Some as the text « Comment » , « reply » etc. seen above which are / should be fixed in a given localization
b) entities with arbitrary content as the user name above

----

Beside the knowledge about the directionality of « entities » one should have information about the language and the script in order to provide a readable representation / rendering and selecting the most suitable « font family » , « font-size » etc.

As far as I understand, the essense of the proposal is introducing "auto-direction" in addition to the explicit LTR and RTL.
