Timeless reports that if you click the update available notification to open the add-ons manager then it can't be closed.
Possible using the wrong features to open, or perhaps an issue with an unparented dialog?

Used the wrong features for opening this window. This ought to get fixed by the patch I have in progress for bug 408115
Depends on: 408115

Change of tack there, will have to make a simple patch up for this.

I copied the original features from the update startup notification which is modal. These ones are the proper ones from browser.js.
