mozilla -installer converts the WORKING Netscape 3.74 into a prefs.js file that won't access my ISP's proxy server. OS SuSE Linux 3.4 (2.2.13) Manual proxy doesn't connect with entire proxy URL (http: //autopac.execpc.com/auto.pac). Using a sniffer (ethereal) no packets are transmitted by Mozilla while attempting to load any URL with either the auto proxy, or the manual proxy setting listed above. The only setting that sends a request to the ISP is setting the proxy to "autopac.execpc.com", which properly returns "Unauthorized to Access URL." If I set the pref to direct internet connection, I cannot reach many URLs. This is a big problem.
Jim, let's get this bug narrowed down a bit. First, download a new build and see if you can reproduce. If so, then continue. If not, let's resolve it. Remove your ~/.mozilla directory and do a clean Mozilla install. Do not upgrade your Netscape installation. Let's just try this with a clean, default install. Now, after you've got Moz installed, try visiting web sites with no proxy. See how that goes and then change your Moz preferences and enter your proxy server. Now visit some sites and see what happens. Any other details you might come across would be good too. This is an old bug.. let's get it resolved.
The attached PAC from the URL mention returns DIRECT for all hosts proxied through it. Marking as duplicate of 20145 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 20145 ***
