Proxy settings applied on names not IP addresses

It seems Firefox (since I can remember) does not resolve hostnames /before/ applying proxy settings. This has the unwanted effect that hostnames do often not work in work environments where restrictive firewalls have to be dealt with, and Proxy exceptions are defined for internal IP's. Using the IP address however does work. So it seems Firefox does not resolve the name before applying the proxy filter rules, and fails to display the page even though the target address is indeed listed as Proxy exception. All other browsers work as expected and apply the proxy rules to the real IP address, it would be formidable if Firefox worked the same way.

Is it possible to load the page after the proxy filters? This is still an issue for some folks posting in the forums: Question: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/982480?] -asking for logs, steps are produced in the question- [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/784031] though this is more like the issue posted,

this is by design - there is not one unified view of DNS, and when you are using a proxy you are proxying the DNS to that view. You can however use DNS explicitly within a .PAC script
