In bug 404252, we noticed some inconsistencies in what is treated or not treated as whitespace. jst suggested that we should figure out what IE does and probably standardize on that.

In the current HTML5 draft \v and \f count as whitespace (which is annoyingly different from XML 1.0 where they don't). I suggest coordinating this bug with HTML5 so that the impl and the spec end up agreeing.
