Bookmarks just disappear requires to maintain a seaparate bookmark file to restore bookmarks. This happened on the earlier version of FireFox and still on going with
the new version.
It deletes entries in the personal bookmark as well as other files. It is quite annoying.

This should be better in FF3.0 because the bookmarks & History are stored in a SQL Databse.
marking as dupe of bug 193749 but there are several other open bug about lost bookmarks, plese search yourself
