Nothing in Camino 1.5.4 should have caused this, since nothing significant in plug-in APIs changed from 1.5.3 to 1.5.4. What plugin is being used to play these ASF files? You can probably find out by visiting about:plugins in the browser. You should make sure you have the latest version of whatever plugin that is, and you should also try this with a fresh profile using Troubleshoot Camino:

Wups, mi bad. You're right.
However, the fact remains that some update ago, Camino played these asf files (the plugin is Flip4Mac 2.2) and now it doesn't.
Works in Safari, Firefox, and Opera (which actually fires up Quicktime). All use the same Flip4Mac 2.2 plugin. Camino is the only browser that does nothing.

If you give the stream a minute or two to buffer the sample will start to play, unfortunately the controller isn't being rendered.
dup of bug 343499 ?

Given that this was reported against Camino 1.5, yeah, that's entirely possible.
Reporter, does this happen in the latest trunk nightly?
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/camino/nightly/latest-trunk/
If not, it's probably safe to assume the lack of a controller being rendered is due to bug 343499.

On a up-to-date trunk build: no controller, no sound.
with this 'page':
http://wm10.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=50:jvfuxqqgld0e~W
Flip for Mac 2.2.0.49
Safari 3 took a long time to load but in the end played the sound clip.

To repeat: Safari, Firefox, and Opera all play the sample with varying delays (none of which are more than a few seconds). Camino won't play the sample even if you wait for Hades to become frosted over. All 4 of these browsers are rendering using Flip4Mac 2.2.

Minefield 2007122603 Minefield/3.0b3pre build: doesn't play the sound clip either. After a brief moment ('loading'), I get a notification in the statusbar: 'Stopped'.
No messages in the error console.
Is there some sort of conflict between Gecko (cocoa:widgets) and Flip for Mac 2.2 ?
(sidenote: me wonders why I don't see a similar message in the statusbar in Camino..., but that is another issue)

So... Do I take it that this problem is going to remain unresolved?
Seems to have just died.
Anybody have any suggestions on what recourse I have now? Other forums? Contact information for Mozilla developers?
I'd like to at least get some information if not solutions.
Help?

It sort of sounds that way. Has anyone pinged the F4M folks or Cocoa Widget folks about this?
That doesn't really explain why 1.5.3 and earlier worked and 1.5.4 suddenly quit working, though.
Reporter, are you using the same F4M version as Philippe is in comment 5?

So.
I downgraded Flip 4 Mac to Version 2.1.3.39.
(from: http://www.flip4mac.com/wmv_previous.htm)
Then the sound clips play correctly on trunk builds (Minefield and Camino) and Camino 1.5.4.
This sounds like a bug in the latest F4M then.
Chris --> TE ?
Reporter, thanks for reminding me to test that :-).

Yeah, I guess so. I'll cc smorgan so he knows about it, since he was the liaison for their upcoming fix for 343499. Hopefully he can put the right people over there with the right people over here.

This sounded like a wonderful solution, so I ran the uninstaller on Flip4Mac 2.2, downloaded the wmv_previous (which was 2.1.3.10 instead of .39) and tried the sound clips again. Still nothing. Checking plugins, I find that the 2.2 Flip4Mac plugin is STILL in Camino as well as the 2.1.3, both enabled!
So, how do I remove the 2.2 plugin from Camino?

Wups! Hold on. Just had to quit Camino and re-start it and 2.2 went away.
Sure enough, loading the older version of Flip4Mac did the trick. Thanks for the tip, Phillipe.
I guess the correct action would be to let the Flip4Mac folks know that they broke something in their latest release. Any suggestions on how to go about doing that?
By the way, before I forget: Thanks to all of you for taking up arms in support of my problem. You're a great bunch.
