Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9b2) Gecko/2007121016 Firefox/3.0b2
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9b2) Gecko/2007121016 Firefox/3.0b2

When the location bar autocomplete loads initially (when it first appears, when it first finds a match for the text in the location bar), and if it appears underneath the mouse (meaning the mouse is now hovering over it after it appears), it will select the item that it is hovering over. This is probably incorrect behavior because if I wanted to select the first item on the list, I would press the down key and then enter. The position of the mouse prior to the autocomplete loading has nothing to do with what item I want to select.

Note that if you type more text, it is no longer selected and will not be until the mouse is moved. This is correct behavior, I think.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
I use Slashdot as an example here - however, it works with any webpage or any search string that returns sufficiently many results in autocomplete.
1. Visit about 10 Slashdot pages. Visit the home page (http://www.slashdot.org) many times so that it appears first in autocomplete.
2. Hover the mouse about 1/3 way down the screen.
3. Hit ctrl+L to select the location bar and type in "sl" quickly.
4. The autocomplete menu will pop down. The first item in the list should be the Slashdot home page. Suppose you want to go there. Hit down, then enter.
5. You do not end up at the Slashdot home page because the mouse had selected (visibly) an item on the list, and pressing down just selected the item below that one.
Actual Results:
A different webpage than desired was visited.

Expected Results:
The Slashdot home page should have loaded.

I am running Ubuntu Linux with GNOME.
This bug does not occur in Windows XP.
Confirmed on Mandriva Linux 2008.0 using a recent nightly (b3pre). This bug is really irritating as the initial position of the mouse is not expected to have any effect on the selection. This should block Fx3 IMO as it makes keyboard navigation pretty difficult.
