Using may30 commercial build on linux rh6.0, Mac OS 9.0, NT 4.0 found (by jrgm) when verifying bug #23060 When in the 3-pane mail window and you drag the thread/message pane splitter upward over the entire thread pane when a message is displayed, the thread pane column headers are still visible through the splitter line. This not only makes for sloppy display, but it also can interfere with the usage of the gripper on the splitter. Steps to reproduce: 1. Go to 3-pane mail window (test with both window layout options from main mailnews prefs panel). Message pane is shown. 2. Select a message and let it fully display. (problem doesn't happen when there is no message selected/displayed). 3. Grab the grippy on the thread/message pane splitter. Drag it all the way upward to cover the entire thread pane. Result: The display of the thread pane column headers displays through the splitter bar. Many times this will interfere with the ability to grab the grippy to drag it downward again. In that case, clicking on the grippy will snap the splitter just enough to grab it and drag it again. Expected result: dragging the splitter upward over the entire thread pane should hide the thread pane column headings.

reassigning to evaughan. My guess is this is similar to all of the other splitter bugs we've been seeing about widgets showing through.

Build 2000-06-23-08M17: NT4, Linux 6.0, Mac 9.04 Move the splitter upwards so the message pane is maximized and it stops right before the column headers (i.e. Thread, Subject, Sender). The thread pane doesn't appear to be displaying through the splitter bar anymore. I do agree that the splitter should have the ability to hide the column headers.

Ok the splitter will go over the header if someone makes the top tree's min-height=1. But thats up to the mail news guys if they want it to look like that.

moving to future milestone. The original problem is gone but you can't pull over the columns.

it's a very old bug now. a easy soultion is to set for the upper treeview a value for the minimal height of two lines.

wontfix, given current behavior? ... which is, a) that thread pane has a minimum size and can't be put immediately below headers b) "removing" thread pane doesn't exist, unlike (F8 and F9) removing folder and message preview c) under what circumstances/use case does it make sense to be able to hide the thread pane? (I can't think of one)
