The localizer consulted the community and suggest the following changes to web services for Firefox 3, which I have reviewed. Search engines: Google, Polymeta, Sztaki, CC, eBay, Vatera, Wikipedia (hungary) Removing Yahoo - it's not popular search provider in Hungary and doesn't deal with Hungarian language as well as Polymeta. Polymeta is a meta-search engine that provides a good user experience, is aware of Hungarian language rules (Hungarian is a morphologically rich language, polymeta can stem the words and search for all forms in the web) Sztaki was suggested as a specific search engine that acts as a good English-Hungarian Dictionary Vatera is the biggest Hungarian e-commerce site and provides a good clean user experience CC has been included to better support their efforts internationally (mic's suggestion per comments from Lilly and Gen) RSS Readers: Google, Netvibes, Bloglines, and Hírlapom.hu (www.hirlapom.hu) is a local provider that collects all of Hungarian news sites. My Yahoo is not popular or well used in Hungary Andras - do we need 4 providers or can we reduce the list to 3 by removing Bloglines or Netvibes? Live Bookmark: keep index.hu, it is popular, and good news aggregator for Hungary
Mic - awaiting permission from 3d parties for changes i.e., polymeta, Vatera and Hirlapom Andras - can you get me a contact for Vatera please

received permission from Plolymeta: "jofoldi endre" <jofoldi.endre@k-prog.com>: Hello. Thank you for the opportunity! We give the permission. If you need any information from us, just write to me. Thank you, Endre Jofoldi Senior Developer K-PROG
Hrm. Hirlapom looks like it is a news aggretation service, does it offer reading your own list of feeds, too?
I tested Hirlapom (my connection is incredibly slow) but it seemed like I could add a feed in the box on the main page (at least it looked that way in the data processing messages). Andras - can you confirm please, it should be able to do this if its a true RSS reader.
Re: Hírlapom: You can add your own feeds and you can select any from the already categorized feeds. The box at the left hand side contains the feeds that the user likes to read.
What we'll need is a URL so that we can add urls by loading a url. The other thing that I just saw is that the hirlapom site as I see it is one huge chunk of flash. And there doesn't seem to be any fallback for user that don't have flash installed. Is that good? At least it looks like "ugh" if a disable the flash plugin in fx3's add-ons dialog.
>huge chunk of flash. And there doesn't seem to be any fallback Already fixed. The site offers to download the latest player, if its not installed. If you have any further question about hirlapom, please ask. Thanks for opportunity

sorry for double post there comment #12 and 2. i believe we're still outstanding permission from Sztaki. I will post that shortly. Axel do we have correct parameters or should that be checked as well?
Whiteboard: needs-mic, needs-pike
Andras, for mailto and calendar are these defaults ok or should we look for others? mailto: gmail, yahoo, hotmail calendar: google, yahoo, 30boxes
Missing search engines are: Polymeta, hu.wikipedia.org (currently has en-US). Missing permissions: Vatera, Sztaki. Pending removals: Yahoo (Amazon only if replaced by Vatera?) We'll need to get the search strings reviewed for all of Polymeta, Vatera, and Sztaki. Andras, could you create and attach a patch at least for Polymeta and wikipedia-hu?

working on permissions, will post back as soon as i have them faxed Vatera here is permission from Sztaki ----- Original Message ----- From: "Balazs E. Pataki" To: "Michal Berman" Cc: "timar" Sent: Wednesday, March 26, 2008 5:03:01 AM GMT -05:00 US/Canada Eastern Subject: Re: permission for Sztaki in Hungarian Firefox 3 Dear Mic, Thank you very much for your inquiry! It would be our pleasure if you could include SZTAKI Dictionary in the list of default search plugins for Firefox 3. If you need any assistance in this (clarification of query parameters, etc.), you know where to find me. ;-) Best regards, --- balazs
have not received anything from Vatera yet. Here's my suggestion, given they are a large portal site and should be able to accept our traffic, I will send them a negative option fax i.e., we are including you in our build, if this is a problem contact us by Monday to let us know this is not ok with you. Andras, Pike how do you feel about taking this approach versus removing them from the list? Andras, comment #14 - for mailto and webcal I will move that to a separate bug to deal with post RC1.

Regarding webcal, we're having 30boxes in the tree, but nothing for mailto:.

we need to update for mailto to have at least yahoo!mail. can you add this as a patch?
permission received from vatera (nothing like last minute) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Csaba Ajtony" <> To: mic Cc: "Csupor Erik" <>, "Gerő Viktor - Vatera" <> Sent: Thursday, April 10, 2008 9:41:21 AM GMT -05:00 US/Canada Eastern Subject: permission to include vatera's search engine in Firefox 3 for Hungary Dear Mr. Berman, we give our permission to include vatera's search engine in your upcoming release of Firefox 3 for Hungary. Regards, Csaba Ajtony marketing director
andras - ping ??
mic - pong. I added yahoo!mail as you requested but I do not feel competent to deal with this bug. You ask me to add yahoo!mail but you do not tell me how. BTW I copied the lines from the German locale. I will not object if you do anything you like within the hu locale in regards of this bug.
andras thanks - we may be able to close this bug now. i apologize if i missed seeing that you did that already. over to axel to see if we can close :)
further to these last notes, axel and i had a chat on IRC about vatera and shopping engine's for hungary. andras, at the time you and i were discussing these options in january the guidelines were to have 6 plug-ins. since then we changed it to allow more. in en-us they are shipping with 7 (like for bug 380785). also you had said community feedback was that amazon wasn't very popular in hungary but there was no alternative for a comprehensive shopping site like amazon. most sites were very specific. soooo my recommendation is to leave amazon in the list so at least it gives some comparisons for users when they do look for shopping like amazon provides, even to compare to hungarian sites. and because there were no good suggestions for something as comprehensive as amazon for hungary right now. we will still need a plug in for vatera to land. up to you and axel on that piece ;)
Andras got back to us, he's busy, so I did a little peering here. region.properties was already cool, so all I did was fixing wikipedia, I changed the English one for the Hungarian one. As for Valeta, we'll pick that up when Andras has time for that, and we should put that in a different bug. Marking this FIXED, based on reference http://hg.mozilla.org/users/axel_mozilla.com/l10n-src-verification/index.cgi/file/57531158330d/reference/HEAD/hu/. Andras, despite me coming up with a path or two, we'd still need you to opt-in in the newsgroup thread. If you do, please tell us wich testing you could do, even if it was few. Then we'll try to come up with testers from our side. I see that you're shipping Betas since B3, so just giving us an idea of how feedback went among your users so far would help us a lot.
