IE has File -> Send -> Shortcut to Desktop. It also has "Copy Shortcut" as a context menu item.
Firefox users can drag the favicon or a bookmark to the Desktop. They can also use deskCut for a context menu item.

Here's a first stab at this:
http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Creating+a+desktop+shortcut+to+a+web+page
* I wasn't sure how to illustrate drag and drop, open to criticism/improvements on that.
* I put a table of contents, but it might be better without
* I put the "After creating the shortcut, if you open it with Firefox closed, your default browser will launch and load the page. If you open the shortcut with Firefox open, Firefox will open the page in a new tab." note at the top, but I think it might make more sense at the bottom. However, it blends with the second part, and using horizontal rules doesn't look right

Good stuff.
* You're right illustrating drag and drop. That's a tough one to capture in a screenshot, because it's a movement you're trying to capture. Perhaps two separate screenshots, or just one of the favicon.
* I've removed the table of contents. General rule is to include it if you have three or more headings, or the if the article is long. (Do we have that rule written out somewhere?)
* The stuff about launching the shortcut is good in the intro. The article is about creating the shortcut; and I think it helps presentation, to have it in the intro.
A couple of other things I've done:
* switch the headings to level 1. (They're parsed as h2.)
* Moved "favicon" to an "aka". I don't think most users are going to know what favicon means, but it's good to include it.
* Removed the locale from the addons UI.
* Put a line break before the screenshot.
