Details
(Keywords: hang)
Seen while testing Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9b3) Gecko/2008020511 Firefox/3.0b3.
STR:
1. Set your Cookie Prefs to ask every time.
2. Visit a site such as cnn.com or espn which will offer multiple cookies.
3. Quit the browser before all the cookie dialogs come up.
Expected: Firefox would exit gracefully since I used File : Quit
Actual: Firefox keeps serving up the cookie popups and then hangs when I try to close it after all dialogs have been dismissed.

any chance you can get a debug build, attach a debugger, and see where it's hanging?

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9b4pre) Gecko/2008020623
confirmed; this bug probably isn't in cookies but something in dialog code.

Do you still see this?
I can't reproduce with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1b2pre) Gecko/20081106 Minefield/3.1b2pre
Severity: normal → critical

That is one of my symptoms in 3.6 running Ubuntu 10.04 Alpha 2. I have additional problems with tabs: they become unresponsive after some time. Also, many websites do not load at all. Not being able to quit is the other.
When I change the preferences to 'they expire' or 'until I close Firefox', everything is normal, including the loading of websites.
I created a new user and was able to duplicate the result with similar plugins/extensions.

This bug has been resolved on the Ubuntu release for Firefox 3.6: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/514108

That's an unrelated bug, no? That's talking about a mispackaged jar on debian. This is about the cookie dialog blocking the browser from shutting down.

It may very well be a different bug, but I just want to add that the original Ubuntu bug posted before (#516154) was resolved and found to be a duplicate of the bug I mentioned (#514108).

Removing LP bug as it's not applicable. Apologies for the bugspam.

Frankie, can you reproduce on Mac?
If not, IMO we should close this.

Good lord. Dozens of modal alerts are annoying as hell, and the "use this setting for all cookies from this site" checkbox does diddly squat. But those aren't the bugs you're looking for.
I went to CNN with cookie ask turned on, then pressed cmd-Q. FF wouldn't quit until I responded to the current cookie alert, but it successfully quit after that, then came back correctly upon relaunch (and asked me the cookie alerts again).
