date picker should assume current year when entering date and no year

Details

Underneath the small month view there is a field where one can enter the date. If I enter only the date without a year, it does nothing (presumably because it's invalid). 

It should just default to assume I mean the currently selected year to make the date complete.
Bug 305270 comment 15 deals with this for typing in event dates. The behaviour in the date picker below the minimonth should be the same.
