It'd be good to have some standard responses for forum contributors. These should not be available to non-contributors.

-Thunderbird question
-Web Development question
-General Firefox discussion

We can use the pre-defined content feature (like {content id=2}) for this and add quicktags, but I don't want end users to see this. Can we show certain quicktags only to a certain group?

Not that important because currently contributors can use extensions to do the same thing. Nice to have though.

We could have a drop down next to the bold, italic, etc. buttons above the response text box.  (Sort of like canned responses)

we decided on a dropdown UI.  Can this make 1.4?

Current implementation details:

Dropdown with an insert button next to existing formatting buttons.

Inside the dropdown is a list of canned message titles (like "Safe Mode") grouped into categories (bold entries that aren't selectable).

Clicking insert inserts the appropriate canned text at the insertion point.

The title->text mapping is set in an admin panel open to admins only.

Access to this dropdown is restricted to contributors.

This is one of the bugs that got pushed out from 1.4 due to lack of specifics, but I see that Cww moved it back in. My main worry is that this seems like _a lot_ of work. How would the forum responses be stored? I assume you want them to be configurable? Would we need an admin interface for it?

In short, this looks like more work than you might think. Leaving it in 1.4 for now, but unprioritized. James: please work through the established priority (P1 .. P5, then unprioritized bugs).

Tobbi, I love what you did, but please coordinate with us before you move on. I created a feature page, to capture the purpose of this and the design to make sure we are capturing all the questions that need to be answered before we can put this in.
