gavin - do we need a patch for spanish wikipedia?
(In reply to comment #1) > gavin - do we need a patch for spanish wikipedia? Yes. es-AR only has mercadolibre and yahoo searchplugins at the moment: http://lxr.mozilla.org/l10n/source/es-AR/browser/searchplugins/
Whiteboard: needs-patch
On September, 2006, Ricardo Palomares Martínez (es-ES localization) asked RAE (Real Academia Española) permission to include the official spanish dictionary in Firefox search engines. They responded that every spanish localization should have the dictionary included. ¿Should I file a bug? ¿Do you need to resend the RAE email to anyone of you to include this search engine? The es-ES search plugin is commited at http://lxr.mozilla.org/l10n-mozilla1.8/source/es-ES/browser/searchplugins/drae.xml

that sounds like be a good addition Would you post the permission into this bug please and then file a patch to add it.
This is the original permission from Real Academia Española.
This dictionary search will replace answers search plugin for es-AR localization.
Comment on attachment 305530 [details] [diff] [review] Adding Real Academia Española search plugin >Index: drae.xml >+ <Url type="text/html" method="get" template="http://buscon.rae.es/draeI/SrvltGUIBusUsual"> >+ <Param name="TIPO_HTML" value="2"/> >+ <Param name="TIPO_BUS" value="3"/> >+ <Param name="LEMA" value="{searchTerms}"/> >+ </Url> >+ <SearchForm>http://buscon.rae.es/draeI/html/cabecera.htm</SearchForm> Was there any consultation with RAE about which parameters and which search page should be used? These seem to work fine, but there seem to be other interfaces available depending on which URL/parameters you send. Just wondering if others had been considered. Looks good otherwise.

Just wondering > if others had been considered. > This search plugin is the same that es_ES is using. It seems to be the right one.
For reference, the es-ES plugins uses tabs, the es-AR one spaces for indention, so a plain comparison fails. But a diff -uw shows no differences. Mic, it seems that answers.com got removed, too, is that OK with you? We still need a patch for es.wikipedia.org, AFAICT. Please follow http://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla/source/browser/locales/en-US/searchplugins/wikipedia.xml and make sure that the ShortName is "Wikipedia (es)" to match the site.

Thanks Axel Marcelo - you removed Answers - was this intentional, if so why? I realize Answers isn't relevant everywhere in the world. Please advise. thanks.
(In reply to comment #11) > Thanks Axel > Marcelo - you removed Answers - was this intentional, if so why? I realize > Answers isn't relevant everywhere in the world. Please advise. thanks. > It was removed, as said on Comment #6. Answers.com is almost inexistent in Argentina. es-ES doesn't include Answers in search plugins list. http://lxr.mozilla.org/l10n/source/es-ES/browser/searchplugins/list.txt
clearly i didn't catch that, ok to proceed and agree this sounds like a better service for your users :)
Adding Wikipedia-es to the es-AR search plugins. The search plugin is the same file that es-ES is using as there are only one spanish translation at wikipedia.org.

Comment on attachment 311820 [details] [diff] [review] Adding Wikipedia-es search plugin r=me. The plugin itself is already landed, the change to list.txt is reviewed now, too. That landed, AFAICT, too, but got backed out as well. Please land with a check-in comment indicating my review and referencing this bug.

PS: Please put me in as requestee, otherwise patches will not make it into my radar, in particular on bugs which I'm not CCed on.
Whiteboard: needs-pike → needs-landing
The Spanish wikipedia plugin still needs to land, and we don't have a mailto: handler at all. I suggest using yahoo mail en-US default for that, too.
Wikipedia landed. mailto: handler is using en-US default.
Whiteboard: needs-landing
Marcelo, please bump the gecko.handlerService.defaultHandlersVersion=1 Otherwise the changes won't be picked up in existing profiles.
