when you right click on a message and select "open message in new tab" - in my case, this was an imap message, but I am not sure if its for others too.
The message tab is created, but the message is not in the tab.
This only doesn't work, if you have minimised the pane in the main box view.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.drag the bottom of the mail box down, so the message prieview goes away
2.right click on a message and select "open message in new tab"
3.
Actual Results:
the message is not displayed.
Expected Results:
the message should display!
One could argue that you have asked for no preview by the fact you have closed the preview pane, but I would say the action of asking for a tab view, is a different part of the interface, and should show the message.
I expect this is due to the fact the tab view and the priview panes use the same form design, so as its been turned off in one view, that has continued to the other.. coded well!! but not appropriste from the users perspective.

Confirmed on windows vista and beta 1 test build. Also using imap mail here

This is a general Thunderbird bug, and has already been reported in bug 429440.
