well this is how it started.
i wanted to close firefox, had 2 tabs open got a warning that do wish to close ... and i said yes! and firefox closed.
then after firefox had closed, 5 min. later we had a power problem and had to shut down my computer, after i started the computer 30 min. later connected to the net, and started firefox, it took longer than usual to start firefox ( usually it takes abou 30-60 sec.) this time it took 2 min. (maybe due to addons)
anyways, when firefox started i was shocked to see that everything was back to scratch, ( as when u install firefox for the first time).
i checked more and found that i had lost all my bookmarks, lost all the settings i had changed ( the settings had reset back themselves to default), lost all addons i had installed!
but i had history, cookies, and all the other private data saved correctly ( not even a single history page was lost) .

Try http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Toolbar+keeps+resetting to fix the issue.
