User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9b4) Gecko/2008030318 Firefox/3.0b4
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9b4) Gecko/2008030318 Firefox/3.0b4

I'm running the Firefox 3 betas on Fedora 8. I am consistently having problems with certain PNG images, such as this one:
http://www.martnet.com/~jes/temp/biome_lab.png (40kb)

On my system, I get a normal-looking page load, but the image itself is completely blank. All I see is the page background.

The image area is active on the page: I can select the image area with the mouse and right-click > Properties gives me the right info about the image:
http://www.martnet.com/~jes/temp/ff_png_view.png (69kb)

Also, it seems that it's not only png images. Here's a page viewed in Seamonkey and FF3b4. I've edited and combined the screenshots side-by-side:

http://www.martnet.com/~jes/temp/image_ff_compare.png (493kb)

FF3b4 is on the right.

Note that the JPEG relief map background is rendered the same by both, but the GIF overlays (the radar data, the lines, the legends) are all rendered too light and partially transparent. The background is visible through the overlay labels in the right panel (FF3), but the overlays are opaque in the left (SM).
I'm using the binary tar for Linux from mozilla.org.

No errors on the console; running in -safe-mode doesn't help.

Running as a new user account with no .mozilla profile at all does not help.

I've asked other testers on two different lists to check this, and I seem to be the only one who has the problem, so it may not be reproducible.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Load the image file url (first one) above.
2.See a screenshot image, or a blank page.

Happens every time for me, but apparently not at all for other people.

Other PNGs work fine in FF3; I think the difference is that this one is indexed, where the others that work are RGB. I haven't tested that thoroughly, but at least for the image I linked to above, it works fine if I save it from Gimp in RGB mode. There are no transparent areas in the image.
Do you use a fedora Firefox build, a self-compiled one or a Mozilla.org binary ?
I've been using the Mozilla builds, starting with beta3. This has been the only glitch I've had with either b3 or b4.

I've also tried a 'Swiftfox' build from http://getswiftfox.com, and an rpm built for Fedora 8 from http://blog.famillecollet.com/post/2008/03/12/Firefox-3-beta-4 They both show the same problem behavior.

Unfortunately, I don't know of a convenient way to test the Fedora development rpms. I'm hoping someone who's running a dev test box might send me a report.

The standard Fedora Firefox 2.0.0.12 works perfectly.
