Suspecting cross platform, works without the <!doctype ...>.
<th> doesn't get rendered in the strict DTD checking mode (doctype HTML 4 DTD).

How is "<th> not showing" a dupe of "<p> not being auto-closed"?
I can see they're related, but they seem distinct bugs to me.

Agreed; Rick, shall we mark this dependent instead and we can verify that it is
fixed once bug 42312 is fixed?
