User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.12) Gecko/20080207 Ubuntu/7.10 (gutsy) Firefox/2.0.0.12 Build Identifier: Firefox/2.0.0.12 Windows 32 bit version Hello, The Firefox installer installs without any issues on Windows 95, but when the program is launched it crashes. Reading information on the website says that Firefox 2 and later does not support Windows 95 and that Firefox 3 and later does not support Windows 95/98/me. The installer should refuse to install on unsupported operating systems unless the user insists absolutely. Reason for report : My mum is running firefox 1.5 on Windows 95, today it told her to upgrade to firefox 2. She selected yes and now firefox won't start. Firefox should not allow it self to install on a computer that is not supported ( there should be an override option for anyone who wants to try). Thanks, David Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install Firefox on Windows 95 2. Start Firefox Actual Results: Firefox installed, but won't start because it doesn't support windows 95. Expected Results: Firefox installer should have said "Sorry Windows 95 is no longer supported and can not run the latest version of Firefox. Consider upgrading ....." The firefox installer should check the operating system version, if it is not supported it should not install. Optional : The install should take an optional parameter '/force' that would force it to install even though it isn't supported ( for those hackers who want to try ).
OS: Other → Windows 95
Version: unspecified → 2.0 Branch

Over to software update since that is the actual cause. note: the installer has been fixed on the trunk. We won't be fixing it on the branch since we would need to add new strings.
Component: Installer → Software Update
QA Contact: installer → software.update
Product: Firefox → Toolkit
This is actually handled by the server side of the update system and should be fixed. Resolving -> wfm. Please reopen if you are able to still reproduce going from Firefox 2.0.0.x to Firefox 3.0.x
