geoportail.fr is a site similar to google maps. Firefox2 is able to display its maps correctly. Firefox3 displays some black areas instead of maps.
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Visit the geoportail.fr website
2. Type the name of a french city (for example Grenoble)
3. Scroll the map with the mouse ("hand" tool)
Actual Results:
After a while, some tiles are not displayed and are replaced by a black solid color.
Expected Results:
Correct display of maps

Could you please attach a screenshot ?
Do you have other problems in scaled images ?
This could be a dupe of bug 411831

Since bug 411831 seems to be dependent on xorg driver here is what I am using:
$ lspci
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M56P [Radeon Mobility X1600]
$ cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=hardy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu hardy (development branch)"
Driver: fglrx
$ fglrxinfo
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI Mobility Radeon X1600
OpenGL version string: 2.1.7412 Release

Can you try to set XAANoOffscreenPixmaps in the xorg config as suggested in bug 411831 ?

I confirm that adding
Option "XaaNoOffScreenPixmaps" "on"
into /etc/X11/xorg.conf fixes the problem. Thank you for the hint!
