Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de-AT; rv:1.8.1.13) Gecko/20080313 SeaMonkey/1.1.9
If you open an E-Mail attachment (e.g. a TXT or DOC), and edit it, just click at save and close the editor (e.g. Notepad or Word), it will be left in the and/or deleted from the Temp-Directory.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a Mail with an attached DOC-File.
2. Modify the DOC-File, and only click on "Save" in Word.
3. Close Word
Note: Of course DOC and Word can be replaced with other filetypes and editores, it's just an example here.
Actual Results:
The modified file will either be found in the
C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Username\Lokale Einstellungen\Temp
directory, or be deleted from the Temp directory.
Expected Results:
The behaviour of Seamonkey is not very lucky in this case, there are three possiblities of solving this problem. Instead of just leaving without any message Seamonkey could
1. Open the file in write protected mode so that the editor (e.g. Word) will prompt for saving it to another location. (This is the best solution I think, the Becky E-Mail Client handles attachments this way).
or 2. Check if the file was modified bevore removing it from the temporary folder and ask the user if he wants to save it elswhere.
or 3. Ask the user if he wants to replace the E-Mail-Attachment with the new modified version (Outlook behaves like this).
I am not sure when it will be just left in the Temp directory or when it will be deleted. It might depend on your systems settings how often to delete the temporary directories, maybe it also gets deleted when using mozilla 1.1.8, and will just be left there when using 1.1.9. I tried with different computers getting different results. However, it should be easy to change this behaviour when opening attached files as read-only.

Not a Bugzilla bug -> MailNews.
