I use Tiddlywiki, for example, to document 'stuff'. These are local files added to the bookmarks in a subdirectory called 'Daily'. They failed to import. I can, however, add them again and they are retained OK - just not imported. Please note that I've only tried it on two machines, so when I say it 'happens every time' .. take it for what it's worth.
I also note that some known issues related to special characters in bookmarks have been resolved, so this may have been addressed inadvertently.

3.Go to bookmarks .. file bookmark should be absent

Bulk closing all UNCONFIRMED bugs dealing with places that haven't had any bug activity in over 120 days, have no votes, and are not enhancement requests.

If you are still experiencing this issue in Firefox 3.0 or later, please re-open the bug with steps to reproduce (if they were not part of the original comment).

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body   contains   places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
