While working on bug 426957, I discovered that Kannada text on a page with no 'lang' attribute set was being given an x-western 'lang', which in turn was screwing up font selection for me (because I have lots of wacky fonts).
Attached is a log of visiting that page with DUMP_TEXT_RUNS enabled and atsuiTextRun:5 logging turned on. My running commentary on that log is in bug 426957 comment 6.

Is this the same as or related to bug 504918?

Any update on this? Can it be at least assigned to someone who will look into it?
Bug 504918 (closed as duplicate of this one) has some more information on this, and so do some of the comments in Bug 426957.
In particular, try Attachment 389218 [details]:
https://bug504918.bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=389218
This bug is still present in latest Minefield, though the characters now seem to be identified as something weird (still not as Kannada and Telugu).
