Find linked to this bug the Firefox 3 "Tips" page to be localized in all
languages we ship for the release.

http://viewvc.svn.mozilla.org/vc/projects/mozilla.com/branches/firefox3/en-US/firefox/tips/index.html?revision=12124&content-type=text%2Fplain

(revision 12124) on the Firefox 3 branch in SVN)

Don't forget to save it as UTF8 and attach it as "plain text (text/plain)" to
this bug.

Note that this page is currently not available on the current svn trunk that
most localizers have access to (ping me on IRC/email if you don't and need it)
because it has not been merged yet from the branch where the web team is
preparing the new site for the Firefox 3 release.

Thanks
For Japanese (ja and ja-JP-mac), we'll host this page on our new home, mozilla.jp.
Line 177: There are more than 5,000 Add-ons—little extras that customize Firefox—that you can download

Maybe a space after "Add-ons" and before "that" would be good

Line 186: click Manage Search Engines
Line 203: Just go to Tools → Clear Private Data

Add "…" to the menu item?

Line 245: go to Tools→Downloads a
Line 262 (and 265,267): Tools→Options→Applications

All other menu references have a space before and after →

Line 245: or Ctrl-click and choose "Copy Download Link".

Ctrl-click it's a bit too mac style
Agreed on all of your points Francesco, especially the ctrl-click which is just wrong for most of our users. People, please change "ctrl-click" by "right-click" in your translation.

I didn't localize the screenshots and their path. Who will do this and when?
IMHO, we should provide localized screenshots for this page (and the other in-product pages) otherwise, this will have a little taste of amateurism
for the scrteenshot, I'll see with the graphic design guy if we can make it together, we will change paths as we have them done locale per locale.

Good catch, thanks.

All the keyboard shortcuts on this page should be OS-specific, so if you're on a Mac you should see the Mac info. However, if you're not on a Mac we should definitely fix that!

If you're going to make this string platform-specific, maybe you want to change also the sentence "[...]CSS element with a simple right click." in paragraph "Discover Developer Tools".

Thanks Francesco. In this case, I'd prefer to leave the text as it currently is. Your other edits sound good to me.

It seems that the side-menu links are in a different order in the tips page, compared to the security and organic pages. Is that correct?
Hâvard, they are in the same order.

side-menu links order have changed on security page. is it going to change on all other pages?
stick to the menu order here, I'll correct menu order myself for all locales.

> To stay organized, you can assign tags to your bookmarked sites: just double click on the star icon and you’ll be prompted to enter your tags

I don't think this is the right explanation. If the website is not bookmarked already it's a double click, but if it is bookmarked, then you only have to click once, a double click would open and close the dialog immediately.

Thanks, that's a good catch. Personally, I feel like the current text is correct enough that it's probably not worth forcing the localizers who have already completed this page to go back and make changes (basically the phrase is right half the time, and any semi-savvy Internet user will be able to figure it out for the other half...also, explaining it fully would make the text much longer). But, there's certainly nothing wrong as being as accurate as possible.

So, I'll put the question to you guys: what do you want to do? Can you live with the text the way it is now? Is it worth changing? Not worth changing?

Let me know what you think...

if some localizers feel it is important, they can correct the wording now or later this year, it is too minor an issue to ask everybody to revise his text, at least not if we want to ship firefox 3 this quarter ;)

No, the phrase as it is now, is always wrong, but you can make it even shorter and right:

To stay organized, you can assign tags to the sites you bookmark:

Well, just wanted to note.

In Eliminate Every Trace section:

if (gPlatform == 3 || gPlatform == 4) {
					document.getElementById('trace-platform').innerHTML="Firefox → Preferences → Privacy";
				} else if (gPlatform == 2) {
					document.getElementById('platform-protocol').innerHTML="Edit → Preferences → Privacy";
				}

Why is it platform-protocol, not trace-plaform? the platform protocol is at "Set the Web Up Just Like You Like It" section.

Polish translation by Katarzyna Stawarz + some fixes by me.

We left the 'en-US' in images URLs intact. Are we supposed to replace that with 'pl' or with a PHP variable, or just do nothing?
Attachment #317608 - Attachment mime type: text/html → text/plain
marcoos, leave it as en-US, thanks
Oops, the MDC link was ending with "/pl/docs/Strona_główna" instead of just "/pl/". That's currently what "/pl/" redirects too, but I think it'd be better to have only the language code here, just in case.

Attached image Reference for below mentioned typo. (obsolete) —
Hi,

In this "tips" page i just found a typo. Under <h4>Eliminate Every Trace</h4> tag we have sentence like
(go to <span id="trace-platform">Tools → Options → Privacy</span> and select the "Always clear my private data when I close Firefox" option).
But there is no such a menu item in the "Tools" menu.

We can find this option at Edit->preferences->privacy. So it should be
<span id="trace-platform">Edit → preferences → Privacy</span>.
Correct me, if i am wrong.
Please refer the Screenshot.

Thanks,
Krishna.
> We can find this option at Edit->preferences->privacy. So it should be
> <span id="trace-platform">Edit → preferences → Privacy</span>.

Take a look at the JavaScript code under that sentence: the menu reference changes depending on the operative system of the user that reads that page.

Mac Os X: Firefox → Preferences → Privacy
Linux: Edit → Preferences → Privacy
Windows: Tools → Options → Privacy

Pascal, there is a broken image on the Danish localization, can you take a look at it?

The image url is /en-US/img/tignish/tips/new-tab-click.png
Jesper, good catch, there was a change on en-US to fix a localization issue, the image was replaced by real text (the image was only text in a png file), i'll file a bug for localized versions to be updated soon.
