User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9b5) Gecko/2008032619 Firefox/3.0b5 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9b5) Gecko/2008032619 Firefox/3.0b5 When I tried to open a PDF by clicking on it I get this message pop-up: /tmp/file1.pdf could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences. When I go to Preferences -> Applictations the list is empty (and there is no way to add a new association). This error is printed in the console: Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80570016 (NS_ERROR_XPC_GS_RETURNED_FAILURE) [nsIJSCID.getService]" nsresult: "0x80570016 (NS_ERROR_XPC_GS_RETURNED_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://browser/content/preferences/applications.js :: <TOP_LEVEL> :: line 478" data: no] Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Preferences 2. Go to Applications view Actual Results: List is empty and a error is printed in the console Expected Results: Expected to be able to select application to open PDF files I am using KDE and have been using Firefox 2 before, plus some of the Firefox 3 betas. My Applications list is empty as well, also with no visible way to add items to the list. Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9b5) Gecko/2008050509 Firefox/3.0b5 xubuntu 8.04 (hardy heron) linux xfce desktop
I think, this duplicate #409192
This bug is around since like forever. Such an important dialog completly broken (no way to add custom handlers, doesn't reflect changes made to mimeTypes.rdf etc.). Not to mention external rss reader support broken and god knows how many other *important* things. Well I found bug reports all the way back to the last century so I guess Firefox 3 will continue the tradition of having those broken... no problem as long as the world record is set: "most downloads in 24 hours" ... yeah "most downloads in 24 hours of broken software" can be another category.
Still not working in Firfox 3.0. Tried installing GConf as pointed out in bug 409192 but didn't help even with a new profile.
