Today, I got notified that a new version of DownThemAll! was out. So I updated it from v1.0 to v1.0.1. After the restart, I got the add-on notification saying I installed a new add-on, while it was a simple update.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install an add-on
2. Update it
3. Restart Firefox
Actual Results:
The notification says you installed a new add-on.
Expected Results:
A subtle notification that says you *updated* an add-on.

I have never seen this and just double checked with DownThemAll so there must be something more going on here.
Can you provide some more detail to the steps to reproduce. How did you install the update, from the startup notification or by opening the add-ons manager while Firefox is running. Was Firefox itself updated at any point in the process?

I remember sometimes seeing the add-on notifications when I didn't install new extensions. I can't say if there was an extension being updated or if Firefox itself was updated, but I suspect there could be something wrong somewhere.
Sorry if this comment is vague I just wanted to mention it.

Dave: I installed the update from the startup notification, and Firefox wasn't updated during the process.
I'll try to reproduce with a new profile later on, and let you know.

I tried to reproduce on the same profile, but it wouldn't work. So this is either rare/random, or my profile is messed up. Also, another random thought: I thought it might be related to the autostart licence agreement of DownThemAll!...

I just saw the situation I mentioned on comment 2. It happens if I run a profile with a nigthly build, and then run that same profile with a debugging build which has Dom Inspector and Venkman extensions enabled at the application level. In that case, I see the post-restart notification about Dom Inspector and Venkman being being newly installed.
Obviously this isn't related with that bug. That's questionable if the notification should appear in that situation. On one hand these application level addons weren't installed by the user, but on the other hand they can be considered new as they weren't available when running the profile with the nightly build.

No STR and the reporter can't reproduce so closing this so closing it for now. There are a couple of other issues with this notification that are likely to change which might end up resolving whatever this was anyway.
