User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9b5) Gecko/2008032620 Firefox/3.0b5
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9b5) Gecko/2008032620 Firefox/3.0b5
This behavior did not occur in FF2!!
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Do as it says in this guide: http://lifehacker.com/software/firefox/hack-attack-quick-access-firefox-settings-146031.php
Then when you have the keywords imported:
2. Go to locationbar by pressing F6
3.Type in 'opt'
4. Hold down 'ALT' key while pressing 'ENTER'
Actual Results:
Now a new tab with the FF 'Options' opens. That's fine, but your whole window are also resized ( http://img388.imageshack.us/img388/7462/damnresizingbc5.png )
That is very annoying. Then you have to press the 'maximize' icon.
Expected Results:
Window not resized

Yeah, okay. I can see that no activity has been around this bug.
So I have changed the title to something more simple.
Also added some illustrations so one quickly can get a hold on what the case is all about.
Also I have realized that I did not have to link to another site for people wanting to try of the bug.
Instead you can simply write: 'chrome://browser/content/preferences/preferences.xul' (without the two ') into your locationbar and press ENTER. (or ALT+ENTER to open in another tab)
Now your browser window has become resized.
It didn't happen in FF2 and that I think is the correct behavior.

Just testing through Firefox 3RC2 Portable and I can report that the bug is still present in this version.
Summary: Window resized when using keyword → Window resized when loading preferences.xul
probably related to or caused by the patch for bug 283697
Since chrome: URIs aren't generally supported, this is probably INVALID or WONTFIX

@Cww: Sorry for not updating the bug with the info you gave me (Cww and I have talked outside this forum). But I've been away from bug fixing a little while...
I decided to try to understand the https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=283697 you linked to... (By the way I am fully convinced that, it is the thing having triggered this bug)
I got tired of reading when I got to Comment #74 (user Robert Strong [:rs]).
What I got from reading until there is:
Yeah, as you can understand from these screenshots...:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=175593
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=175640
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=178438
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=184483
... some users in FF2 experienced having some of their options in the 'Options' window cut off.
That doesn't occur in FF3 due to a fix of that bug has actually been made...
The essence of the fix made to that bug, I think is espressed in #6 AKA Dave Townsend (Mossop):
"The problem I guess is that when fadein is enabled the dialog should start sized
to fit the current pane. Otherwise it should start big enough to fit the largest
pane in."
This part of the quote is especially interesting:
"should start sized to fit the current pane"
= That change has now been done in FF3 been = that solves the bug thread the quote is taken from.
But it also creates the bug publicized in this thread started by me...
It doesn't have to be one or the other (having to accept of of the bugs) though...
I now present you what the correct fix for https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=283697 looks like (a fix solving it, while not creating this one):
The correct fix would be: "should start minimum sized to fit the current pane" instead of "should start sized to fit the current pane".
That would mean that "Bigger is ok"(fix to my bug), but "smaller is forbidden" (fix to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=283697 ).
It is totally OK that smaller is forbidden, but currently bigger is also forbidden - that is not necessary.

(Damn why does it show the full URL when I link to the bug, but when you did it, it only said: "bug 283697"?)

(Ahh now I understand - LOL :P
You just have to write 'bug' and then followed by a number, then it turns into a link - smart)
