Both 2.0.0.14 and a top-of-tree built on 20080415_112548 show this problem. I am on Mac OS X 10.4.11 (intel). This is easy for me to reproduce. Use the test file above, for example. When I print this out, all the table cells have a white backround. On Mac OS X, one can see this either by actually printing the page, or selecting the File->Print menu and then clicking on Preview. The resulting PDF shows the symptom also. So, does the above test actually get run? Does it pass?
And it should do so: go to Page setup... and see the missing mark at Print background.

Wow. That is amazingly non-obvious. If I am looking at a web page and I go to print it out, should it be the default behavior that what you see is NOT what you get? That seems wrong. It is actually not even about color. I saw this bug with a table that had black background squares. I am trying to think of a reason why I might want to use a printer that might print color but that definitely does print black and white and I do not want to print a black background. I am not seeing a reason. We should make the default behavior that you print out what you see on the page. I can supply a patch that sets the default value of the preference if this is desired.

I think this is a really bad idea for every body but the ink producers. IE and Safari are also not wasting toner on background. As I said this is INVALID.
You've obviously taken a long time to work out the logic there. How can I argue with that?
That's not me, http://nemesis.lonestar.org/site/color_tips.html Netscape NN4 already did this 10 years ago.
Closing again as invalid. This works as designed. If you would like to change the background behavior please open a new bug where you clearly ask to change the preference default. Addressing in the opening comment why printing the background is a good idea and not just wasting toner might be beneficial. However I would not expect that you will find a lot of people who like this idea.
