Open the Library and right-click on a folder in the left-pane. Note that 'Properties' for the folder are not displayed, and is not shown in the right-pane info box. Right-clicking on a folder in the sidebar, or the Bookmarks Menu reveals the Properties is still there. Intentionally removed from the Library ? Summary: Properties missing in the Library Context Menu → Context-menu items missing in the Library
Flags: blocking-firefox3?
Peter, agreed it seems the most likely candidate. Jim set a dependency on that bug to help get this attention.
Depends on: 412682
This is by design. To get to the Description field of a folder, go to it's parent in the Library, select the folder, and the name and description fields appear in the properties editor.

so should not this be a wontfix rather than an invalid?
hwv, personally i don't agree with this choice, for these reasons: 1. we have it everywhere in menus / toolbar, not having in the Library appear like something missing rather than a consistency issue. 2. as a Windows user the first place where i go looking to rename a folder is context menu, and i don't have any option left to do that. 3. with many folders in the left pane, having to move to the parent and edit in the right pane is far far away for mouse path, and a real headache. 4. is completely not consistent with OS (at least on Win)
I totally agree with Marco, this step will only further reduce the usage of the Library when it will be more convenient to use the side-bar or the drop menu, where a quick rename can be done with 'Properties' from the context menu.
I agree with Marco. This "behavior" is different and counter-intuitive to what Windows users are used to.
(In reply to comment #6) Agree. (In reply to comment #7) Agree. Half-baked consistency and roundabout workflow are harmful.
Totally disagree about this decision. Native behavior for renaming folders in windows is to right click and either choose "rename" or properties. Removing that behavior will not only confuse users, but annoy.
The folder hierarchy on the left hand side should definitely have the Properties option, because there is no way to edit the folder name and description from there. You shouldn't have to find it in the right hand side to be able to do any of this.
I think what people really want here is bug 430213. We've removed the "Properties" item from everywhere in the Library, as we now have a properties editor view.
Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h". In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows: Tools | Message Filters Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New" Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h Change the action to "Delete Message". Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top. Click OK. Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter. Gerv
