User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9pre) Gecko/2008050306 Minefield/3.0pre Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9pre) Gecko/2008050306 Minefield/3.0pre In the Applications settings I see only Mozilla Thunderbird (default) and Yahoo! Mail. Why isn't Gmail included. When you open http://mail.google.com/mail/?view=cm&fs=1&to=sb@example.com&zx=ksv85oz3z3vw&shva=1#compose if you are sign in at gmail you will get "sb@example.com" in the To: field Reproducible: Always
Yea, this would be nice to have. Unfortunately, with the l10n implications of this, I think it's probably too late for Firefox 3. Kev, is this one of those things where approval from Google is needed before it could be implemented? BTW, a Google search reveals a list of parameters that can be passed: <http://www.rabidsquirrel.net/G-Mailto/>

Gmail's app doesn't support it, but they are rolling out a new version that will go live on either the 8th or the 15th. Most likely they'll make it into .next, but we'll see what happens, and we really can't add it until it's live and tested. The url, when it's released, will be: http://mail.google.com/mail/?extsrc=mailto&url=%s
Of course, adding that the 8th or 15th refers to May of 2008 probably would have been nice in comment #2
There is a WebmailCompose extension, see https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/206 I think I've seen this bug before.

Does gmail supply a UI for this like yahoo mail does?
I mean UI. If you go to the new yahoo mail beta, there is a Option to register yahoo mail as webmail handler in the drop down, right next to help, upper right.
oh, I see what you mean. No, that was Y!'s initiative, and is a good one. Something we should probably outline, since it's non-trivial in the product.

Kev, for which locales do we need to use which name for the protocol handler?
i'd like to suggest closing this bug and moving to bug 444395 where this is the active bug for enabling Gmail across all locales
