I'm hoping to have people who want to register early for Support Firefox Day register in tikiwiki and use the contributors forum. As such, to help make the Contributor forum a more friendly place to be, I'm proposing breaking it into three subforums: 1) General chat (just for fun, off topic things, or fun stats, whatever) 2) Support issues (stuff like the latest top issues, KB article progress) 3) Admin (where we talk about administrative things about sumo). Stuff like polls and stuff can be stickied to the top of both so they don't get lost.
The "General [offtopic] chat" is technically not a contributor forum at all, but I think it would be a nice addition to make the SUMO community experience more fun and engaging.

However, is there really a demand for two separate contributor forums? Or will this just scatter the discussions into two places without any real benefits?
I can see the benefits to splitting, but I don't think there's enough traffic to warrant it yet.
Let's hold off on splitting up the contributor forum and just add the off-topic forum.
