User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686 (x86_64); en-US; rv:1.8.1.11) Gecko/20071127 Firefox/2.0.0.11
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686 (x86_64); en-US; rv:1.8.1.11) Gecko/20071127 Firefox/2.0.0.11
The application crashes when dragging a tab to change its position in the tab list. The cursor switches to a crosshair inside an upside-down L (denoting the upper-left corner of the tab).
I am running Ubuntu/Gnome
Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce
Steps to Reproduce:
I do not know if it is a timing problem or if there is a particular state that triggers it. It seems to happen randomly. I cannot reproduce it when I try, yet it happens regularly (every other day or so). I use tabs heavily, but this can happen when I have only a few tabs.
I have a 48Mb core but I don't know how to attach it. Please send me mail with instructions on where to send it.
you'll need to install dbg packages for your ubuntu firefox.
once you've done that, you'll want to read:
http://www.mozilla.org/unix/debugging-faq.html
and general instructions for gdb.
we have no interest in your core dump as it wasn't generated by our binaries.

"We hsve no interest in" is discouraging. "Unfortunately we cannot use" would be better, since I was following instructions. Maybe you could make it so that builds outside your environment do not produce those instructions (by checking the version string or something else, perhaps).
I am familiar with gdb, however, shouldn't I try running your binaries first (if at all possible) and see if the bug still occurs?
debian is very good at patching warnings away. read today's news. don't go there, you really don't want to. today is not a good day for debian.
yes, you should read http://www.mozilla.org/bugs/ which very clearly says not to report bugs based on debian builds.
can you please indicate which directions you were following? i'll gladly try to optimize them (similar to debian optimizations).

After firefox crashed, a window appeared requesting that I report the crash and upload either a small or a large crash report. Upon selecting "small" or "large", the window indicated the location of the crash report file. Unfortunately I do not remember the exact text. The instructions were not specific as to how to report the bug, so I googled "report firefox bug" and got to this site. Perhaps I should have googled "report ubuntu firefox bug".
And you're right---not a good day for Debian. I am shocked. I had no idea they did this stuff.
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. But, should I run the version I have inside gdb, or should I download 2.0.0.14 from your site and install that one?

luigi, sorry for the long delay, bug does this still happen with an official build of firefox 3.5.2? If so, please follow the directions from comment 1
