Hi,
I'm in charge of localizing mozilla products in Romanian and I'd like to start the process of shipping Sunbird in Romanian.
This would be the second mozilla product that would have a complete translation. first being Firefox.
I have access to CVS, I can put the translations up right away I just need some guidance on the steps I should take.
I'm thinking I should commit to HEAD, wait for the nightlies, test and then go for the release ?
Also I need to know which branch to take the en-US from, and what version should I target, 0.8, or a future version ?

Hi Alexandru,
thanks for providing a Romanian localization for the Calendar products (Lightning and Sunbird).
We're currently developing on the trunk (HEAD) and the MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH in parallel, so that is where you should get the en-US strings from. The strings between trunk and 1.8 branch do not differ, so you only need to translate stuff once.
I would recommend that you grab a current snapshot of the English strings and translate them, then translate all the changes made since the original snapshot. I would recommend to target our next release, 0.9.
Once you have committed all the strings and compare-locales does not show you any errors, report back here, so that I can add Romanian to all-locales and shipped-locales, so that localized nightlies will be built automatically.
I'm trying to actively communicate with our l10n community via our developer blog <http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/calendar> and via the mozilla.dev.l10n newsgroup. I would suggest that you watch both.
There's also a mail alias here in bugzilla called calendar-l10n@mozilla.bugs that we use to make localizers aware of bugs that need their attention. I would suggest that you add this address to your watch list in your bugzilla email preferences.
Feel free to ask questions here in the bug, in the l10n newsgroup or directly via mail.

Hi,
ro/calendar is up on trunk, plus ro/other-licenses/branding/sunbird/*
The translated files match the last en-US trunk version for the calendar project.
I didn't do any tagging, I guess I should do that before launching 0.9 and a few tests on the nightlies. I already tested by building a language pack for Sunbird and Lightning.
Please add Romanian (ro) where it needs to be so that nigthlies in Romanian start to build.
After some tests on the installer and installing process I'll report back here to say if we can go ahead with shipping Romanian with the next versions.

You don't need to do any tagging. You just need to checkin the calendar files to both HEAD and MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH.

Ok, the translation is copied in MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH, but on that branch there are differences between en-US (MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH) and ro (I mean keys). Should I fix those in the ro MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH ?

Sorry, I see now there are no differences. Please proceed.

Alexandru, I've added Romanian (ro) to all-locales. Our tinderboxen should put out builds within a few hours. Please test those builds and report back with your testing results. Thanks!

Ok Alexnadru, your locale looks pretty fine. The tinderbox is orange right now due to one missing string. Can you please add that string on branch and trunk. Then I'll add your locale to shipped-locales as well. Thanks!

Done, but what does shipped locale mean ? Going public on mozilla.com ? or ?

It's just an internal approval step. But yes, your locale will be part of our 0.9 release given that the localization is current then.

How can I test the translation in the Lightning extension?
Is there a nightly build or something?
I know I can create an xpi and put the romanian translation in there, I just wonder if there's a testing process for this too.

As soon your locale turns up in shipped-locales, the nightly build process will automatically package your locale. You should be able to test by switching the language to ro.
