not sure what i did, but during a page load, i was able to somehow get "wyciwyg://" in the url bar.

browser does something to hide this url scheme from the user.
That's the URL we get from dynamically created pages (e.g. document.write() from script). We should port that browser code to fennec.

I think we should probably revisit some of this code and make it closer to what we're using in Firefox, to avoid having to reimplement every aspect of basic browsing functionality and make porting patches easier.
