If I start typing in the location bar, the whole browser window loses focus after a very short moment. If I type very fast, I might initially get 3 characters into the location bar, before the minefield window loses focus. After that, I must bring firefox back into focus by clicking it, click in the location bar, and I can then type one more character before it loses focus again. No awesome bar stuff appears either, but it might just be losing focus before it has a chance to appear.
The search bar works normally.
I am using ubuntu hardy heron and gnome.
Minefield exhibits the problem, but not the firefox 3 released by ubuntu, using the same profile. I only noticed it happening today.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Begin typing in the location bar
2.The firefox window quickly loses focus and whatever you're typing disappears
3.
It seems to work now, with
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9pre) Gecko/2008052504 Minefield/3.0pre

I'm seeing the exact same problem. The location bar is completely unusable. This seems to be happening to all autocomplete fields.
I'm installing the latest nightly now to see if the issue has already been fixed.

Looks like the (now backed out) "fix" for bug 433340 caused this.
