I use the bookmarks toolbar heavily, and cram it with sites with recognisable page icons, which don't need titles. So the bookmark gets no name in properties - but it's still spaced in the toolbar with extra space to the right of the icon to offset the name. This looks odd, especially when mouseovered, and wastes space. When the name is zero-length, Firefox should adjust the spacing around the icon to the minimum needed.
I guess a userChrome.css will do what you want; probably the forums can help you: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=38
How will a user chrome stylesheet tell the difference between text of zero length and text of one character? I don't think this is solvable there...

Doesn't happen in current trunk nightlies. Could somebody please verify? Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; en-US; rv:2.0b2pre) Gecko/20100704 Minefield/4.0b2pre
