when firefox opens and bookmarks is clicked a new bookmark window pops up for the first time clicked and then does not happen again unless firefox is restarted  

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.open firefox
2.click bookmarks
3.
Actual Results:  
the ad a new bookmark window pops up

Expected Results:  
the bookmark drop down window should drop down

By click bookmarks, do you mean in the File menu? Or the bookmarks star? Or the bookmarks sidebar?

the same bug occurs to me on Firefox3:
"Clicking Bookmarks menu sometimes tries to add current page as bookmark, OR
tries to modify one of my bookmarks."

OS: fresh install of UBUNTU Linux (last version: Hardy, which uses Firefox3 as
default).
Bookmarks in attached file. (I imported them from this html file)
Remark: I don't have this problem with Firefox2 (on Ubuntu Gutsy)

I also have this problem on Windows Vista. I tried disabling all extensions and it still happens.

I have noticed that it only happens the first time I click on the menu and that I have clicked on Bookmarks. 
If I click on another item, Tools for example, then move to Bookmarks the bug does not occur. The second time I click on the menu, directly on Bookmarks, it does not occur.

I have used the same profile since FF 1.x including various versions of FF3 Alpha/Beta/RC. I have lost my bookmarks once FF3 was installed then I imported HTML on a backup I had.

One more thing I have noticed. When I slowly click (hold the mouse button down) on the Bookmarks menu the bug does not occur.

This will be my current workaround.

This bug seems to be the same on Linux and Windows ( Bug 406646 ). The Bug 418949 on Mac may be related.
