User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1a1pre) Gecko/2008061503 Minefield/3.1a1pre

Quite naturally it also goes up to a higher memory usage, ca 150 Mb, as I understand it goes to all live bookmarks and updates them. It then releases the memory and it can be used.

Not reproducible in Firefox 2 that didn't have the Sqlite implementation of Places.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Add circa 40 live bookmarks to Fx3
2. Close it and open it next day or something (when it is has gone long enough time for Fx3 to think it needs to update all live bookmarks.

Actual Results:
Sit and wait while Fx3 is totally locked.

Expected Results:
Better multitasking than the program to be spinning like crazy taking all CPU.
Submitter would need to confirm, but I believe this may be a duplicate of Bug 329534.

Yes, it seems indeed to be the same problem.
Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
