User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008052906 Firefox/3.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008052906 Firefox/3.0 Well, the other day I had downloaded the trial version of FF3, and noticed 2 problems. 1. Any file I download, goes through a normal download procedure then promptly disappears for no apparent reason. It shows the partial files for the duration of the D/L, but they vanish upon completion. 2. I cannot print from website pages.... the paper my printer spits out is headed with the website information, but no text or images beside that come out. I had hoped it was just a problem with the pre-release version, but now that FF3 is fully out, I see that is not the case, as I am still having trouble. I've disabled all of my security software and tried again to the same results. Downloading and printing both still work with Internet Explorer, so it is just Firefox. I never had any problems with FF2 or previous versions... if it maters, I'm on a 64-bit OS Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Download anything... 2. 3.
You need to file a new bug for the printing. Jim, rob - this sounds like an issue that was brought up on irc today with the file disappearing.
Fenrir - are you running any anti-virus software on your system, and what type of network security do you have in place? (corp/home)?
Well, I thought it might be the same problem for both issues, which is why I lumped them together... I have all internal-vista securities disabled. I do run Avast! antivirus, which I tried disabling to no change. As for network security, I don't really have any. Again, it was working just fine right up to when I swapped over to FF3-trial...
> Avast! antivirus Is there any chance you could uninstall that and see if the problem goes away? We hook into interfaces for virus scanning that usually don't get shut down when you hit the "disable switch". This might be a big pain, if so let me know and I'll try to get a local copy of Avast going.
Well... it is a pretty big pain... but, I'll do it. It worked fine before, I don't see why it would be causing problems all of a sudden. It doesn't do it to IE downloads, and AVAST likes to yell at me when it has a problem, which it has not done.
Finally got around to it, and no change. I'm still having the exact same problem. I just double-checked in security center, and I have absolutely nothing protecting my computer from anything, except the settings in IE, which are completely irrelivent since I never use it.... So, I'm going to go get my protection back while I wait

I'm not entirely certain... under the "Other Security Settings" drop-menue, it says, " Internet Security Settings OK (greanlight) All Internet Security Settings are set to their recommended levels. " I haven't touched the settings in IE since I bought my computer...

Their default security settings are different (and relevant) to this bug. If you're running Windows Vista, can you please tell us which edition you have (ex: Home Edition, Business, Ultimate, etc...)? > > Well, the other day I had downloaded the trial version of FF3, and noticed 2 > problems. What do you mean by 'the trial version'? Do you mean one of the Release Candidates or the final release? > > 1. We should be checking the settings before we start the transfers, so I'm not sure why you're seeing partial files. > > 2. I cannot print from website pages.... the paper my printer spits out is > headed with the website information, but no text or images beside that come > out. This seems unrelated to the first problem. Please file a separate bug for this issue.
It's Vista Ultimate 64-bit
Oops, didn't see the other questions at first... Yes, I mean the release candidate... I downloaded it 3 days before the final release came out. As for the IE settings, I pulled up the settings and turned them all off, which my security center recognized, but there still wasn't any change. Now, I have a partial file on my desktop... that I cannot delete or open... Windows errors me and says the file/location cannot be found.
Fenrir, Just an fyi, we did add a pref that disables virus scanning, which might be the cause of your problem. It's - browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone Setting this to false may fix your problem. If not, then it's something unrelated to virus scanning.
Alright... and, how might I go about changing this setting?
Okay, well, I went in and tried changing that setting, and it worked. I now have no problems downloading with firefox, awesome :D I'll post a topic about the printing issue when I can get around to it. Thanks.
