There are a variety of ways in which we can make the mailnews UI more responsive to user actions if we do a lot more in the background. Background on the IMAP side of things is here: http://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Better_Faster_IMAP But we also want to use the same kind of approach for sending mail.
