...or else they'll be surprised to find themselves broken after the update.
For example, a Mac OSX10.3 Firefox2 user should not be offered a major update to Firefox3, because Firefox3 does not support OSX10.3. (There may be other examples.).
Afaik, this is something that needs to be done in AUS, and not part of update snippet generation. However, if this is something we can/should do as part of update generation, please reassign this bug to RelEng.

AUS can already do this, we have APP_OS and APP_ABI coming across in the AUS path. In the AUS config I have a list of platforms that can be defined as platforms we never want to serve updates to, we'd just have to populate that list.

This is already bug 418129 which also covers other OSes.
