All bookmarks disappear if browser shut down. To get them back, one must log off, and log back in. Bookmarks then appear normal. Bookmarks cannot be loaded from a Firefox Bookmark backup, or from an HTML file.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start Firefox
2. Terminate Firefox
3. Restart Firefox
Actual Results:
Upon re-starting Firefox, Bookmarks bar is empty, and defaults are all taken to the original state. Nothing I have been able to do changes this, except shutting it down again, logging off, and re-logging in. Then, Firefox comes up with defaults and bookmarks normal.

Expected Results:
erm... Not kill bookmarks?
do you still see this?
A further refinement of symptoms follows:

Setup: re-boot WinXP. Start Firefox. (Current 3.03 -- Earlier report was on 3.0 - can still occur in 3.03, but at approximately 25%, rather than the 100% of 3.0.

After a re-boot, load Firefox and then exit program by "red X box." Restart. Problem occurs apparently randomly, unknown if specific cause. Problem presents as no history, bookmarks, or opening of home page. Further investigation shows that after the FIRST exit of program, a "firefox" process remains active after exit if problem will present. If there is no "firefox" process after the exit, the next launch of Firefox will happen correctly. If the zombie process is killed with Windows Task Manager, problem will not occur. Sorry for not noticing this factor earlier. --- Warren
ok so your places.sqlite is locked due to the ghost process and history cannot be initialized...
bug 414715 will notify about that but not sure we can do more than that...
Depends on: 414715
Since upgrade to 3.04, problem has NOT recurred. Also, have not noted any ghost process after closing FireFox. I suggest closing bug report.
