haven't updated anything other than firefox yesterday. And the links were
working fine before the firefox update because I use pop peeper a lot.

When I point to a link, I see

in status bar, instead of http://........"

Conquerz, what version of Firefox were you running that was working previously?

It was Firefox 2.0.0.14

I always leave autoupdate on and update as soon as a new version is released.

Thanks... I'll try reproducing this with Pop Peeper and try to figure out what is going on.

This bug report can be closed because it wasn't causes by firefox. It was just a coincident that I spotted this error exactly the moment when FF was updated. Pop Peeper has been updated and the problem is no more. See here:
