User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008052906 Firefox/3.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008052906 Firefox/3.0

this bug occurs on my FF3 version on windows XP and my FF3 version on Linux Fedora 9.

if i legitimately quit the program via file>>quit or file>>exit, this problem does NOT occur.

ONLY if i close the browser via the "x" in the upper right will this bug occur.

under tool>>options/preferences i have "When firefox starts: Show my windows and tabs from last time" selected.

when closing firefox with this "x" method, opening a new session will show one blank window, every time, as opposed to the windows/tabs from last time as i've selected in preferences/options

when closing firefox via file>>quit/exit, opening a new session will correctly show my windows/tabs from last time, every time.

i have adblock and foxmarks installed on both systems.

i have clear private data/history option checked off on both systems.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Options>>Tools/Preferences: Show my windows and tabs from last time
2. Close FF via the "x" in the upper right
3. Open FF
4. Repeat, but choose File>>Exit/Quit instead
5. Notice the difference
Actual Results:
using the "x", FF opens a blank window (incorrect)
using File>>Exit/Quit, FF opens windows/tabs from last time (correct)

Expected Results:
using the "x" OR File>>Exit/Quit, FF should open the windows/tabs from last time

because this occurs on both my windows installation and my linux installation i perceive it as a bug vs an install issue. i will uninstall/reinstall to test soon but haven't had time yet.

i can not test this on my Mac Leopard installation because the "x" only closes the window, not the program; the OS forces me to use CMD+Q which prevents the problem from occurring.

Actually, per bug 398817 the session should never be resumed when the History is cleared at shutdown. This bug is about the inconsistency, though.

the session was always resumed even with cleared user data in version 2.x
was this changed purposely for version 3?
OK; Tools>>Options, always clear private data... settings:

un-checking "browsing history" brings back my windows/tabs regardless of how i exit. makes sense.

this may have been my v 2.x setting (nullifying my above comment)

the inconsistency mentioned remains; i however, am happy.

leave open or set as resolved at your discretion

thanks

See bug 398817, comment 4 and the rest of the comments.
The inconsistency will be fixed in bug 366572 by making sure that we always clear the session at shutdown when clearing private data (History data in particular).
