(Whiteboard: Scheduled for Monday July 21)

LXR has been effectively unmaintained for ages. It's to the point where there's question of the integrity of the code and it's probably not really safe for us to continue running it, so it needs to be repaired or go away. Some of the issues are prevalent throughout the codebase and not simple fixes. MXR was created with the intention of fixing many of the issues in LXR, and had other stuff added to it along the way. All of the new stuff (Firefox3, mozilla-central, etc) got added to MXR and not LXR. MXR is being actively maintained. The best option is to just cut LXR. I'm planning to remove the site and have the domain name redirect to MXR starting Monday, July 21.

IMO, MXR is not ready for prime time yet, but someday it will be, and when that day comes, I hope that the redirection of lxr to mxr will be done in such a way that existing lxr links will "just work", taking the user to the mxr search results page that is equivalent to the lxr page originally cited by the link. It is my experience that all lxr links can be converted into working mxr links by simply changing one letter of the host name. One would hope that, after lxr is decommissioned, that lxr links would work just as if the user had made that one-letter change.

As Nelson said, please be sure to redirect old links instead of breaking them.
(In reply to comment #2) > As Nelson said, please be sure to redirect old links instead of breaking them. Yeah, that's a given. Wouldn't have done it any other way.
