450189 - Downgrade from Firefox 3 to 2 on update

Three separate occasions over about 2 weeks I have been automatically been "upgraded" to an older version of firefox. I have manually reinstalled the latest version of firefox and disabled auto-updating and yet it still happened to more times. It then also screws up the UI slightly by removing the back/forward buttons due to an incompatibilty in the theme even though the theme is compatible with the old version. So it thinks its stil 3.01 when its not, etc.? I also lose all password type cookies and have to retype in for all my sites after it does this.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Installed latest ver.
2.few days later it reverts with a msg of having beeg updated
3.



Perhaps the theme Aero Fox had something to do with it? I thought I uninstalled it a while ago but apparently not and I have uninstalled it now.

To understand this, you install Firefox 3.0.1, and it "Downgrades" you to 2.0.0.x? As, the theme will interfere. Try running in Safe Mode http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode. Also, uninstall your current install, then download 3.0.1 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html, and install. I do not think that it should be downgrading you.

In your application installation directory there should be the files active-update.xml and updates.xml and in the updates subdirectory there should be an last-update.log. Could you please attach these before installing another version?

Attachment: Interesting: says 3.0 when im using 2.0.0.14

I noticed in this file it says the version I'm using is 3.0, but the actual program is back down to 2.0.0.14

None of the files nor the subdirectory exists that you asked for. Unless you meant they were located somewhere other then "...\program files\mozilla firefox\"?

By any chance is there an updates directory in

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\
